ALL SPORTS – Complete Highlights of the World of Sports

Michael Owen has defended Alexander Isak, saying it’s normal for him to want to join Liverpool.

ALLSPORTS – The 2025 summer transfer window is heating up with the saga surrounding Alexander Isak. The Swedish striker has emerged as Liverpool’s top target, with the Reds reportedly tabling a bid worth £110 million.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, Newcastle United were unmoved. The Magpies rejected the massive offer, determined to keep hold of their star forward.

Isak, however, has taken a bold step. Reports claim he requested permission to leave St. James’ Park, but the club refused.

The situation escalated when Isak publicly declared that he no longer wants to play for Newcastle.

Owen: A Normal Part of Football

Former Newcastle and Liverpool striker Michael Owen has weighed in on the drama. Speaking to AskGamblers, as quoted by FourFourTwo, Owen said such transfer sagas are nothing new in football.

“It’s a scenario that generates plenty of headlines, but it’s one we see time and time again,” Owen explained.

As a former player, Owen admitted he understands Isak’s stance. He believes the striker’s ambition to win trophies at the highest level is perfectly natural.

“At the end of the day, every player wants to be the best, play for the best teams, and collect as many medals as possible in their short careers,” Owen added.

Newcastle Under Heavy Pressure

Newcastle now face a dilemma. While the club still has Isak tied down to a long-term deal, Owen warned that keeping a player who has already checked out mentally could backfire.

“Obviously, Newcastle still have him under contract for about three more years, so they hold a lot of leverage,” Owen said.

“But as we’ve seen before, when a player wants something badly enough, it’s not easy to keep hold of someone who is unhappy,” he stressed.
